OVERVIEW ILLUSTRATIVE WORKS

DISTORTIO, SEE YOU IN 2022
[2021]

Limited series of plotted ballpoint pencil cards.

The image was created using  my Risograph to print some pictures of my glass gears. After that I used the scanner to distort the images and plotted that distortion with ballpoint pen on top of the Riso.

Collaboration [LINK](Journal)

[2021]

For the first issue of LINK Journal ‘States of Matter’ I explored different methods of printing as part of the “Hyperglobal / Hyperlocal” MakersXchange. I experimented with the format of the book using different printing tools and machines methods, consequently I also explored the fixed media of sequentially bound pages, the consequences of printing your own book for content and design and the impact of the method of (non)printing.

The collaboration was concluded by a full-on scan and rizocopy frenzy for the cover of ‘States of Matter.’ The covers are created by distorting the printed digital originals with the scanner and accumulating them on top of each other with the Risocopier. In so doing creating a broad range of variations and adaptations, very much a fluid publication.

ARC
[2020]

Limited series of 20 plotted ballpoint pencil cards with augmented reality. If you received one you can now see Cognizant appear in 3D using the #ARC1 or #ARC2 filter (depending on which card you’ve received). Find the filters on my Instagram account.

The line drawing was created by Vector exports from 3D software Blender.

Souvenir
[2020]

VR installation with Caio Vita for Museumnacht 010 at Goethe institut. Made possible by CBK Rotterdam.

Moving through Europe, the tourist collects objects that symbolize their experience. Beyond the purchase this item transforms into a valuable possession and future memory.

Back at home all the collectables are put on display. Iconic symbols used over and over, creating a copy of a stereotype. Recycled to a new understanding, assigned new meanings, beyond personal memory, these objects form an collective idea of Europe.

Multi Machine Installation [2019]

The plotter knife replaced by pens and markers draws intricate designs and patterns with machine precision.

The loud mechanic sounds generated by the plotter were picked up by a microphone and fed into a complex audiovisual feedback loop where sound was converted into image using hacked VGA cables and a signal stabilizer.

The resulting signal was fed into the CRT monitor showing abstract RGB visuals that where a direct representation of the plotter sounds.

This is a collaborative experiment created at Testsite Meent.

Analogue Printing Device

As Robert McLiam Wilson writes, in the introduction Wild at Heart for WilderMann, “Plugged in, neurotically wi-fi ed and G3d as we are, we yearn to re-establish contact with the actual, the primal, the old. We dream of something real, something unmitigated by the filter of profi t-making portals and franchises. We want the as-was, the erstwhile. We languish for the non-mechanical and the pre- or post-industrial. We are pilgrims seeking the past, the genuine, the individual”

Award Artacadia [2019]

Artwork for Artcadia Award, one of the largest art & technology competition for secondary school students.

Nature is often used to clarify abstract concepts. The way we talk about computer technology is in biological terms. We ‘surf’ on the ‘web’, we protect ourselves against ‘bugs’ and ‘viruses’. And our data is in the ‘cloud’.

What is the impact when we become alienated from nature? Will we at some point forget wat simple expressions like “birds and the bees” mean? Which metaphors will we use in the future to get a grip on abstract concepts.

This is an ode to service. The different parts of this artpiece interact with each other through the different characters.

In collaboration with Arno & Iris Beaux Arts (Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam) I transformed the communal desk (FMH) in the government office De Hoftoren. I delivered all illustrations for this artwork.
